Yoga is practiced by some people in the morning while others prefer to do it at lunchtime or evening. You can choose from a variety of options and fit them into your schedule.
What is better, morning yoga or evening yoga? Both times of day are beneficial. Yoga in the morning is energizing, and can help you stay positive for the remainder of the day. You can relax and unwind after a busy day by practicing yoga in the evening.
I’ve never been a morning person. When I first started Ashtanga Yoga, I attended the 6pm class right after my work.
After work I changed into my yoga clothes and went to the studio. I breathed out all my stress. My teacher recommended that I attend the morning Mysore classes when I wanted to deepen my practice.
It was 6:30 am.
I still remember it. I was so anxious I barely slept. I got up at 5:30 am, went to the yoga studio in a daze and did my practice. Then, I went home and had coffee and a shower before going to work.
This became my normal, no matter how challenging it was. As I found a rhythm, I slept earlier in the morning and woke up easier.
Since I moved away from my shala, I now practice in the late morning after teaching my yoga class. This was the time that worked best for me. With experience, I’ve found that the best time to practice Yoga depends on your lifestyle and how you live.
Morning practice is magical. Our bodies are stiffer in the morning, but there’s something special about it.
In the evening, our bodies may be more flexible but we might feel less grounded or tired. It may take some time to experiment with the morning or evening practice. Both have benefits, and can be beneficial.
