In less than two weeks, we’ll be entering a brand new decade. Let’s face it, who needs New Year’s Resolutions when you can develop healthier, kinder habits that will last a lifetime? This year, instead of making difficult-to-keep New Year’s resolutions, or searching for “easy ways to lose some weight,” let’s focus on six ways to become the healthiest version of yourself yet. You’ll achieve your goals (and feel amazing) quickly with the following tips.
- You First
Our first tip is always to put yourself at the top of your list. Self-care is important, whether you are feeling tired, sore or mentally stressed. You should push yourself, but be ready to take a night off if you need it. You should work hard, but also allow yourself leisure time. Don’t forget to relax along the way. Don’t be afraid of saying “no” or “no thanks” to someone else, so that they can say “yes” to you. - Reframe your targets
We understand why weight loss is at the top of many New Year’s Resolution lists. Who doesn’t want to feel good about themselves and look great? Let’s reconsider the “why”. Is your ultimate goal to be well? Your goal should be “eating healthier”. Do you want to be more satisfied with your body? Your goal should be to “gain confidence”. It is often easier to find the right path if we focus on what’s really needed. - Set yourself up for success
Set yourself up for success before you begin. Put your fitness classes or gym time on your calendar, or lay out your workout clothes the night before. Making your goals easier to achieve will be made possible by making it simpler to stick to your plans. - Do What You Love
No matter if you want to eat healthier, exercise more often, or spend extra time with yourself, achieving your goal is much easier (and even more enjoyable!) If it involves doing something you enjoy, then that’s a good start. Find a healthy meal that you love to eat if your goal is to eat more healthily. Find an exercise you enjoy and that makes you feel good if you want to train more often. It’s difficult to reach your goals, but doing what you enjoy will make it feel more possible. - You can get an accountability buddy
When working towards your goals, community is essential. Finding a friend or support system who shares similar goals can help you stay accountable and also give you someone to talk to about the challenges that you might face along the way. - Enjoy What Your Body Can Do
Don’t be sucked into the hype surrounding weight loss, health and fitness commercials. Health has no measurements, so instead of obsessing over each inch, pound, or calorie, let us celebrate what our bodies are capable of by taking care of it as best as we can and moving it every chance we get.
